The US DOT/FHWA launched the Work Zone Data Exchange (WZDx) in 2020 to provide a standard vocabulary and format for data sharing between roadway devices, traffic management software and other sources to get more robust information about work zones and their impact. WZDx enriches local, real-time information for data users such as mapping companies, connected vehicles, work zone devices, and traffic management software (TMS).
